Visiting Japan is not complete without having the national dish: Ramen. If you’re wondering where to get Halal ramen in Tokyo, look no more because we’ve gathered up a list for you!

What’s more comforting than having a bowl of ramen in the chilly weather of November? In this article, we’re going to introduce you to restaurants serving muslim-friendly ramen in Tokyo.

These restaurants are among the few that survived through the pandemic. Don’t forget to pay them a visit and show some support!

Halal Ramen in Tokyo - Honolu Ebisu

Located near Ebisu Station, Honolu Ramen is easily on top of mind when thinking about Halal Ramen in Japan. The soup base is Toripaitan, which is a creamy and rich chicken-based broth. Having been around for 5+ years, Honolu Ramen Ebisu is very popular among the international and muslim community.

Halal Ramen in Tokyo - Ayam ya

We cannot talk about halal ramen without mentioning Ayam-ya. Also the pioneer of halal ramen in Japan, Ayam-ya is a another popular hot spot located in the quiet neighborhood of Okachimachi. Similar to Honolu, you can also enjoy a creamy and rich Toripaitan broth in here. Even for the thick soup option, the broth is very lovely and not too heavy at all. You can also order for extra large size at the same price!

If you are around Sumida or Asakusa, there is a unique ramen shop that we would like to recommend: Kumahachi. In Kumahachi, you can try a special kind of ramen: Tantanmen. Tantanmen is the Japanese take to a Sichuan ramen. Unlike Toripaitan ramen, the rich, savory broth of Tantanmen comes from sesame seeds and soy milk. What’s so special about Kumahachi is their commitment to serve freshly made noodles, MSG- and alcohol-free.

Halal Ramen Toribushi

Address: 6 Chome-1-6 Ueno, Taito City, Tokyo 110-0005 (Google Maps)

Toribushi Halal Ramen

Not far from Ueno Park, there is another halal ramen restaurant that’s just recently opened last 2022: Halal Ramen Toribushi. Similar to many other halal ramen shops, Toribushi also uses chicken stock as its soup base. However, in Toribushi, the soup is more on the lighter side (clear soup?), without distinct oil layer floating on top that we can usually find in ramen.

Toribushi introduces a rather unusual topping for its ramen: cilantro leaves, which adds to the freshness and lighter flavor of the ramen. Besides ramen, Toribushi also offers rice menu and side dishes at reasonable price.

For reference, here is the price range at Toribushi:

  • Ramen options – from JPY 800 to JPY 1400
  • Rice options (Add ons) – from JPY 180 to JPY 390
  • Side dish (gyoza, tebasaki, karaage) – from JPY 380 to JPY 720

Mǎzilù Lanzhou Beef Noodle

Halal Chinese Beef Noodle at Jimbocho Tokyo

Get ready for a feast! Another legendary ramen shop that you should try when in Tokyo is: Mǎzilù. Though originated from Lanzhou, China, Mǎzilù has a long history with more than 100 years tradition. Which should explain the queue and full tables! (It’s also our personal favorite 🤤)

In Mǎzilù, the base is a clear beef stock with multiple medicinal spices. Besides the wonderful broth, you can also enjoy delicious, hand pulled noodles that are freshly made upon orders.

Recommended menu to try:

  • Noodle no. 8 (Triangular Noodle) – JPY 950
