There is no better way than exploring every nook and cranny around Kiyomizudera in Kyoto. There are surely tons of hidden gems, including delicious restaurants such as Okabeya! The restaurant itself is well known for its traditional tofu dishes, all made fresh from its in-house tofu factory.

Whether you’re in the mood for savory and refreshing tofu dishes, hearty Sukiyaki, or light and crunchy tempura, Okabeya has something to satisfy every palate. Our recommendation would be the Sukiyaki set (JPY 3,600), consists of Kagoshima Beef, fresh yuba (Tofu skin), and Tofu terrine. Or, if you’re in for more tofu adventure, the Sakura (JPY 3,300) or Fuji (JPY 2,200) sets might be perfect for you!

For Halal menu (especially Beef), please reserve at least three days in advance!

There are a variety ways to enjoy tofu at Okabeya. The main would be Yudofu, or hot boiled fresh tofu. The dish is usually served with a dashi. There is also a skewered tofu, which is a grilled firm tofu, topped with Kyoto-style miso.

Another surprising yet delicious one is Sesame tofu. Though simple, we really liked the smooth texture. The tofu is also very rich in flavor, mainly from the sesame.
